What it actually costs, against the alternatives

DFW is full of housing with hookups and no machines: the apartment inventory across Arlington, Irving and Las Colinas, the rental stock in Oak Cliff and East Dallas, and the newer builds out toward Frisco and Mansfield where the laundry room is standing empty. The laundromat number is the one that surprises people. At the 2026 national average of about $5.25 for a wash and a dry, three loads a week is roughly $68 a month and five loads is closer to $114, before you count the driving and the two hours sitting there. Renting a set is frequently cheaper than the laundromat outright, and it is always cheaper in hours.

How delivery works in DFW housing

Worth knowing before you book, because North Texas housing creates its own specific problems.

  • Garage laundry and summer heat. A lot of DFW homes put the hookups in the garage. That is easy for delivery, but ask about the machine sitting through a run of hundred degree afternoons, and keep the door closed on the worst of them.
  • Gas versus electric dryers. Plenty of North Texas homes are plumbed for gas and plenty are not. Check which you have before you order anything, because the wrong dryer is a wasted delivery and a second appointment.
  • Apartment rules and stacked units. Many complexes here allow a washer only if it is professionally installed, and some spaces only fit a stacked or apartment-sized set. Say so on the form and the operator brings the right thing the first time.
  • Second floor units. Most of the metroplex is slab rather than basement, so the stairs problem is upward instead of down. A washer is around 200 pounds either way. This is exactly where paying someone else to carry it beats the saving on a used set.

Common questions

Is this rent to own?

No. Rent to own is financing: you pay well above retail over a couple of years and eventually own the machine. This is a straight rental. You pay a flat monthly rate, you never carry a balance, and you hand it back whenever you are finished. Nothing you pay goes toward owning it, which is precisely why it costs so much less.

Do I need a credit check?

Generally no, and no large deposit either. Terms are set by each operator rather than by us, so confirm it with them directly.

What if it breaks?

You call the operator and they fix it, included in the monthly rate. That is the structural difference from buying used, where a failed bearing is your bill and your weekend.

Are the machines new?

Usually not. Most independent operators rent quality reconditioned sets that they have tested and that they maintain, which is how the monthly rate stays where it is. Ask what you are getting and ask to see it.

How fast can I get one?

Usually within a few days, and the operator covering DFW quotes a 48 hour lead time. Ask when they contact you, because the metroplex is a long drive end to end and route days matter.
