Wauwatosa lies immediately west of Milwaukee in Milwaukee County. Its story begins with Charles Hart, who settled in 1835 and built a mill on the Menomonee River in 1845, so the early settlement was known as Hart's Mill. The name honors Potawatomi Chief Wauwataesie and a Potawatomi word for firefly. Watertown Plank Road was built through in 1849, the village incorporated in 1892, and it was rechartered as a city in 1897. Interstate 41 runs along the west side, a commercial district grew up along Highway 100 and public murals were added in 2019 on North Avenue from 64th to 70th Street. Mayfair Mall draws shoppers, and the Regional Medical Center groups the Medical College of Wisconsin, Children's Hospital of Wisconsin and Froedtert Hospital. Frank Lloyd Wright designed Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, and Werner Hegemann laid out the Washington Highlands Historic District in 1916. The Wauwatosa School District runs Wauwatosa East and Wauwatosa West high schools. Booking is easiest if you say whether you are east of the Menomonee River, near Mayfair Mall or close to North Avenue and Highway 100.

Common questions about renting in Wauwatosa

How much is it to rent a washer and dryer in Wauwatosa?

Hanks Appliance Rental charges $65 a month for a set. A single washer or dryer on its own is $30 a month. Any delivery charge is set by Hanks Appliance Rental, and repairs are included for as long as you rent.

Is this rent to own?

No. Hanks Appliance Rental rents the machines and keeps owning them. There is no purchase built into the payments and nothing owed when you stop, which is the main thing separating this from Aaron's and Rent-A-Center.

Do I need hookups?

For a standard set, yes: hot and cold water, a drain, and a 120V outlet, plus a vent or a 240V line depending on the dryer. Tell Hanks Appliance Rental what you have when you enquire and they will say straight away whether it will work. Some operators carry ventless machines for places without a vent.

What happens when I want to stop?

You tell them and they collect the machines. That is the difference between renting and rent to own: there is nothing left owing and nothing to sell on.

Who else rents washers and dryers in Wauwatosa?

Hanks Appliance Rental is the operator we list for Wauwatosa. The national rent-to-own chains also serve it, on the different terms described above. We list one independent per area rather than selling the same enquiry to three companies at once.
