He had a real business. Trucks, machines, customers, a good price. He also had a booking form on his homepage that said "we'll call or text you within 15 minutes to confirm."
The form was not connected to anything. Here is the actual code that was running on it:
No email. No text message. No database. The visitor's name, phone number, and address were collected, a checkmark was painted over the form, and then the browser threw the data away.
Every person who filled out that form was sitting by their phone waiting for a call he was never told to make.
He had not done anything wrong. Whoever set the page up wired the form to display a success message rather than send one, and there is no warning for that. The site loaded, looked fine and the button worked. The only people who reached him were the ones who tapped his phone number instead.
His new site went up for $297. The first thing it does is actually send the lead.
